Senior Troupe performs at Greek-Serb Fest in Appleton, WI

Thanks to a great connection through Agape Dance Alumni Evan Bravos, the Agape Dance Senior Troupe was recently invited to perform at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church's Greek-Serb Fest on June 5. We road-tripped with ten dancers and five chaperones to Appleton, WI, for a journey filled with fellowship, friendship, and, of course, Greek Dancing! The following morning, we attended Divine Liturgy at St. Nicholas, where they welcomed us with open arms. We appreciate St. Nicholas' invitation and look forward to future performances.

Senior Costumes Have Arrived

Through diligent fundraising and generous donations, after three years of hard work, the Agape Dance Troupe has the pleasure of purchasing costumes for the female members of the Senior Troupe. They are the Souliotissa costumes from the region of Epirus. Costumes for our Senior male dancers will follow in the fall after a little extra fundraising. We appreciate all of your contributions and support during our hosted coffee hour and Lenten Luminary sales.

Adult Agape Dancing is Coming!

There has been a shown interested to have a fun, informal troupe to get together, revive old dances, learn new dances, and perhaps show off our stuff one night at the Festival. You don't have to be a skilled dancer to come out and enjoy a grown-up evening of Greek dance for those college-age and older. Check out the church calendar released over the summer for dates and times for our monthly fellowship.

Performance Music

All performance music for the senior dancers was sent out via e-mail earlier this week and junior music will be sent out later this week. These are the sets for the 2010 St. Sophia Greek Festival. I hope you will take the time to load them onto your computer or burn to a CD for your dancers to have access to the music outside of practices.

Costumes

They are on their way! The girls' costumes shipped from Greece today. The plan is to order new costumes for the boys by fall, once we have had time to raise a little more money. Thank you for all of your support in our fund raising efforts toward new costumes -- they are greatly needed!

Agape Dance Update

This has been an exciting year for the Agape Dance Troupe! We have over 40 dancers in the two main troupes this year and are excited to perform at this year’s St. Sophia Greek Festival.

The Dance Troupe sold Lenten Luminaries, which were displayed outside around the church on Good Friday, in the health of our families and in memory of our passed loved ones. We sold 104 luminaries, up from 88 in 2009, and hope to continue this tradition in the future. These funds are going toward new costumes for the Dance Troupe. It has been over 10 years since our last costume purchase, and we hope to have our new costumes in time for this year’s Festival.

Dance Practice resumed on Monday, April 19. Please see me for a full listing of all spring dance practices as we lead up to the Greek Festival. It is important your dancers attend practices from now until the Festival to be prepared to share our music and culture with our visitors throughout the weekend. The dance schedule for the Festival will be released soon via Dance Troupe e-mail listing.

If you would like your children to join the Agape Dance Troupe, we resume practices in October. The Junior Troupe is dancers in first through fifth grades. The Senior Troup is dancers sixth through twelfth grades. We perform throughout the year at festivals, community events, and private celebrations, such as baptisms and weddings. If you know of an event where the Agape Dance Troupe can showcase our culture, please contact me any time!

We have invited the Agape Dancers Alumni Troupe to perform at this year’s

Festival and are excited about their performance.
