In January 2015, the Parish Council established a new Long Range Planning Committee. The mandate to the committee by the Parish Council was:
“To prepare a New Master Plan for the community based on current and future spiritual and physical needs of the Parish. Also, to estimate a realistic cost of the plan, which will be presented to the General Assembly in May of 2016.”
The Long Range Planning Committee and Parish Council will make a recommendation to the General Assembly to accept the Master Plan and ask for a Feasibility Study.
At a later date, a Capital Campaign Committee will be formed to explore and execute the Feasibility Study and project financing voted upon by the General Assembly in May 2016.
The master plan will be explained in detail as recommended by the Long Range Planning Committee and the Parish Council. The St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church General Assembly will be asked to formally adopt this plan by voting:
1. To approve the New Master Plan, for the Parish of Saint Sophia, as proposed by the 2015-2016 Long Range Planning Committee and adopted by the Parish Council in May 2016. The New Master Plan consists of 3 Phases. Phase 1 will include building of a new Church, offices and education center. Phase 2 will consist of renovating the community center and kitchen. Phase 3 will consist of building a gymnasium/multi-purpose addition.
2. To approve approximately $70,000 to explore Phase 1 of the New Master Plan, as proposed by the 2015-2016 Long Range Planning Committee and adopted by the Parish Council in May 2016. This includes:
A. Approximately $20,000 for a Feasibility Study
B. Approximately $30,000 for more detailed architectural drawings
C. Approximately $20,000 to hire a project manager to achieve a more accurate cost of Phase 1.
The final approval of Phase 1 is contingent upon the cost of the project, results of the Feasibility Study, and approval by the stewards of Saint Sophia at the General Assembly in October 2016.
